Environs transforms Boulder Public Library Canyon Gallery into playscapes of the built environment. The installation tells a story of sustainability at various densities and dwelling typologies – from rural, to suburban, and urban. The modules provide interactive and educational experiences for visitors of all ages via differentiation in composition, materiality, and scale.
Each module configuration addresses the history, characteristics, and possible improvements for each respective dwelling typology in a graphical and textual manner.
Visitors are encouraged to imagine and build their own dwelling configurations and smaller structural elements with colorful micro-modules that are scattered throughout the space.
The structures are composed primarily of sheet material that was fabricated utilizing milling technology in order to optimize the structural frames and eliminate waste.
Generously sponsored by Boulder Library Foundation.
